Mapping Hope Workshop (AGIT 2026)

Mapping Hope

Hybrid Workshop (AGIT 2026)

Geospatial Technology & Peacebuilding in Sub-Saharan Africa July 7–8, 2026 | Organized by PeaceEye FlexCo

As part of the lead-up to the AGIT 2026 Conference, PeaceEye is proud to host Mapping Hope, a 2-day workshop and a collaborative space where geospatial researchers, peacebuilding practitioners, policy actors, and the PeaceTech industry come together around a shared purpose: advancing conflict prevention, digital inclusion, and locally grounded innovation across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Day One · July 7 · 10:00 – 11:00 CEST

Online Panel Discussion | Mapping for Conflict Prevention and Governance

This online panel session bridges geospatial technology, policy, and peacebuilding, exploring how spatial data and mapping tools can drive more peaceful, equitable outcomes across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Key discussion themes include:

  • Conflict early warning systems powered by geospatial data
  • Land tenure and resource conflict prevention through transparent mapping
  • Infrastructure planning that supports economic development while reducing community tensions
  • Data governance frameworks that protect communities while enabling sustainable development

Day Two · July 8 · 09:00 – 10:15 CET

In-person Session: Innovations in Geospatial Peacebuilding

📢 Call for Young Researchers, Innovators, Industry Experts & Students

Inspire others with your work. This session offers a dynamic platform for researchers, innovators, industry experts, and peacebuilding practitioners to connect, share, and explore cutting-edge technical approaches for conflict prevention, digital inclusion, and peacebuilding — going beyond traditional geospatial methods.

The session runs across two parallel tracks:

🛠 Technical Track

  1. Live Tech Showcase: Demonstrating geospatial platforms and tools making a real difference in conflict-affected contexts.
  2. Hands-On 'AI for Peacebuilding' Workshop: Participants engage directly with AI-powered tools for conflict early warning, settlement mapping, and resource monitoring. Format: Facilitated demo followed by a guided try-it-yourself session — open to individuals and student teams.
  3. Co-Creation of Hope Maps: Led by African practitioners and students, participants collaboratively create spatial "Hope Maps" and visualizations for specific African contexts, including scenario mapping for climate adaptation, urban growth, and resource management.

🔬 Research Track

  1. Lightning Talks: Rapid updates on active peacebuilding initiatives across Sub-Saharan Africa, key findings, open questions, and lessons learned.
  2. Group Exercises: Small-group discussions exploring which geospatial technologies are genuinely fit-for-context in Sub-Saharan Africa.
  3. 3-MinuteThesis: High-energy, rapid-fire presentation of research output from researchers working at the intersection of geospatial technology and peacebuilding in Africa.

How to Participate

We welcome speakers, presenters, and contributors across both tracks. To express your interest, kindly register by filling out the Mapping Hope Workshop Registration Form and send an email to office@peaceeye.at with your track of interest as the subject line and a brief description of what you plan to contribute to the body. Also include a brief abstract.
